The 14th Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the resolution authorizing the City Mayor to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). The MOA will provide the terms by which the City Government of Tagbilaran can receive the Lotto Charity fund share amounting to five percent (5%) of the Charity Fund on a semi-annual basis and the Calamity Assistance during calamities and disasters. City Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso invited Mr. Robert Pio Cinco, OIC-Branch Manager of the PCSO to further explain the significance of this arrangement between the city and PCSO. Mr. Cinco stated that the PCSO, under its mandate, intends to provide local government units with a portion of the charity fund generated from the lotto sales as share for LGUS to be used for medical and health-related services.Vice Mayor Veloso recognizes the role of the PCSO as one of the leading agencies in the Philippines assists LGUs in medical and health-related services as well as during calamities and outbreaks. After careful consideration, the city council believes that said measure is in the interest of public service and approved the resolution granting the mayor authority to enter into a MOA with PCSO. The PCSO is the principal government agency mandated to raise funds for health programs, medical assistance and services and charities through the conduct of sweepstakes, races, nationwide online lottery , small town lottery and other similar activities.
