In response to the social media post regarding the maintenance and upkeep of the old Tagbilaran Airport, the committee on Health, Sanitation, and Environmental Protection of the 14th Sangguniang Panlungsod chaired by Hon. Eliezer Borja called for a committee meeting to further investigate the matter. It can be recalled that during their previous regular session City Vice Mayor Jose Antonio S. Veloso read a social media post calling the attention of city public officials regarding the scattered garbage and stricter enforcement of prohibitions against vehicles turning the old airport into a highway. Present during the meeting were Vice Mayor Veloso, City Councilors Jonas Cacho, Butchie Zamora and Raul Aparicio, SP Sec. Lynneth Mae Ibba and their guests City Solid Waste Management Office Lito Taladua, City ENRO Officer Ceasar Pelaez, CAAP Representative Angelo Ibanez, Provincial Security Force (PSF) Head PCOL Sancho Bernales (Ret.), Provincial General Services Office Head Dr. Glenn Doloritos, Provincial Solid Waste Management Office Representative Leonilo Lafuente, BEMO Representative Jeffrey Escaso and PSD/OPN representative Marcos Castro. During the course of their discussion, the following points were clarified, there are 2 CAAP personnel and 3 PSF personnel assigned in the area per shifting to ensure safety and security in the old airport. Maintenance and upkeep of the place fall under the responsibility of the PGBH and there are PGSO personnel assigned to clean the area twice a week.Several suggestions were raised during the meeting, among which are 1. Encourage community involvement and participation of the users; 2. Assign 2 personnel to clean the area daily and not just bi-weekly; 3. Put up signages or tarps designating the bike lane and joggers’ area; and 4. Put up general guidelines.Lastly, the CENRO Officer also emphasized that the City has already passed City Ordinance C-292 or the Solid Waste Management Ordinance of Tagbilaran City. Under this ordinance, the City Solid Waste Management Office is responsible for the collection of the segregated wastes but the segregation itself shall be the responsibility of the institution or household.
