The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology-Department of Science and Technology (PHIVOLCS-DOST), the lead agency mandated to monitor volcanic activities and earthquake occurrences, has developed the software Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS).
REDAS aims to produce seismic hazard and risk maps minutes after the occurrence of a potentially damaging earthquake. It is capable of calculating impacts due to earthquakes, tsunamis, crop damage, severe wind and flood, thus, it can be used to conduct multi-hazard and risk assessment at the provincial and municipal levels.
Seeing the potential use of REDAS for disaster preparedness and emergency planning, the City Government signified its intent to avail the REDAS software and undergo training for its selected staff.
Hence, the 15th SP approved Resolution 24-72 which authorizes Hon. Mayor Jane Yap to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the PHIVOLCS-DOST for the provision and training on the use of REDAS as a tool for mainstreaming Disaster Risk reduction into the Local Development, Contingency Planning and Emergency Preparedness. Resolution 24-72 is sponsored by Hon. Charles Cabalit
