The City Council passed Resolution No. 24-78, requesting Hon. Secretary Cristina Garcia Frasco of the Department of Tourism to allocate Php 10 million for the construction of a Tourist Rest Area in Tagbilaran City.
The Tourist Rest Area is a flagship project of the DOT identified as among the priority programs of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. It serves as a convergence point for foreign and local travelers to get information on tourism sites, attractions, activities, and accommodations; report concerns related to safety and security; and access other provisions necessary during their stay at a destination, such as a clean restroom.
Records of the DOT Regional Office show that next to the Municipality of Panglao, Tagbilaran City ranked as second of the most visited towns by tourists and guests during weekends or on declared holidays.
City Mayor Jane Yap emphasized that it is important to provide quality and excellent service to tourists and ensuring their comfort by providing tourist rest areas. However, the City of Tagbilaran currently lack sufficient funds for the construction of a tourist rest area within the city. Hence, the 15th SP, through the Committee on Tourism, headed by Hon. Gemma M. Inting, sponsored Resolution No. 24-78
