During their regular session on March 22, 2024, the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution sponsored by Hon. Nicanor S. Besas which will authorize the Honorable City Mayor Jane C. Yap, on behalf of the City Government of Tagbilaran, to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Education-Tagbilaran City Division, SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI), and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. for the Proposed Construction of one (1) two-storey four classroom building in Booy South Elementary School, Barangay Booy, Tagbilaran.

Last 2023, the SM Group, one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines, had announced their plans in constructing the first SM Mall in the province in Tagbilaran City. Early this year, SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SMPHI), the property arm of the group, have already started securing the necessary permits to start the construction.

As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, SMPHI and SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI) will be offering their assistance in the construction of a school building within the City of Tagbilaran. SMPHI and SMFI had conducted an ocular inspection in the following schools within the City of Tagbilaran, namely: Manga Elementary School, Cogon Elementary School, Eastern Cogon Elementary School, and Booy South Elementary School to be the recipient of the school building. After careful deliberation, they have chosen Booy South Elementary School as recipient of the proposed One (1) Two-Storey Four classroom building fully furnished with 4 flush toilets with handwashing basins, 200 school armchairs (including left-handed armchairs), 4 sets of teacher’s table and chair, 4 panoramic concave whiteboards (equivalent to 8 blackboards), 4 wall clocks, 16 wall fans, among others.

SMPHI and SMFI chose Booy South Elementary School upon seeing that some classrooms were no longer functional after the school was damaged by a fire incident three years ago. To provide the students of Booy South Elementary School a more suitable venue for learning, SMPHI and SMFI shall plan and construct one two-storey four classroom school building with each classroom at 7×9 meter and the infrastructure shall be built according to the specifications provided for by Physical Facilities and Schools Engineering Division (PFSED) of DepEd-Tagbilaran.
