The Fourteenth Sangguniang Panlungsod, led by Hon. Vice Mayor Jose Antonio S. Veloso, commended Acting City Fire Marshall S/Insp. Marlyn R. Macatangay of the Tagbilaran City Fire Station (TCFS) for her admirable performance, outstanding dedication and exemplary service during her term from December 7, 2018 to January 29, 2021. Macatangay has recently been transferred to the Toledo Fire Station in Cebu. During her exceptional two-year leadership, the Tagbilaran City Fire Station was recognized as the “Best City Fire Station” in the entire Central Visayas for 2019, and at the same time she was awarded the “Medalya ng Papuri” together with 51 other personnel of the TCFS. She also initiated and created the Bureau of Fire Protection Tagbilaran Cyclists for Fire Safety (BFP TCFS). This is composed of biking enthusiasts of the Bureau of Fire Protection, whose goal is to spread Fire Safety Awareness in remote areas of the city that are inaccessible to fire trucks.She then played a pivotal role in the designation of the City Government of Tagbilaran as the collection agent for the City BFP in the conduct of assessment and collection of fire safety inspection fees and all other related BFP fees in the bid to streamline and haste the business licensing renewal process.Furthermore, she actively lobbied for the passage of a city ordinance that addresses fire safety in small-scale establishments under special permits, and coordinated with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for training of Community Fire Auxiliary Group, specifically in the barangays of Poblacion I, Poblacion II and Cogon. She even spearheaded the full renovation of the Old City Hall Fire Substation, making it capable and fully ready to respond to any fire incident in the city.Moreover, she has been instrumental in the remarkable and speedy response of the BFP TCFS to the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically in leading TCFS to conduct public awareness campaigns, set-up checkpoints in different Quarantine Control Points and provide assistance to barangays in the distribution of funds under the Social Amelioration Program. Macatangay bid her farewell and gave thanks to the Fourteenth Sangguniang Panlungsod for the latter’s unwavering support to her initiatives and endeavors to spread fire safety awareness in the City of Tagbilaran during the regular session at the SP Sandugo Session Hall last February 5, 2021.
