CITY PARTNERS WITH DENR-EMB TO LESSEN COVID WASTES

Announcements, News and Articles

During the regular session of the 15th Sangguniang Panlunsgod of the City of Tagbilaran on September 30, 2022, the august body welcomed the presence of City ENRO Mr. Ceasar Pelaez who discussed the increasing volume of Covid-related waste generated from quarantine, testing and vaccination facilities, testing facilities and vaccination sites.

In order to address this problem and to ensure implementation of the Covid Waste Management Plan, the City Government of Tagbilaran will partner with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-Region 7 through a project wherein DENR-EMB will provide a 20-footer container van with a 4.5-ton capacity to be installed within the year that will provide as a preliminary disinfection and storage of healthcare waste. The container will improve the collection of COVID-19 related healthcare waste from quarantine facilities, testing facilities, and vaccination sites located in remote areas including small generators that are not serviced by a Transport, Storage, and Disposal (TSD) Facility and hopefully address the challenges of improper collection, preliminary disinfection, and storage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), syringes, vials, and other COVID-19 related healthcare wastes.

As recipient of this project, the City Governments needs to comply several requirements, among which is the passage of a resolution by the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod authorizing the Honorable City Mayor Jane Censoria C. Yap to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-Region 7. Hence, during said session, the resolution sponsored by Hon. Malvin Misael C. Torralba was approved.
